Senior Staff Accountant
Location: Roanoke, VA
Compensation: $54,065.14 - $90,108.57
Position Summary
Optical Cable Corporation (OCC) is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support general accounting operations, period-end financial reporting, and tax compliance activities. This role will perform a variety of accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial workpapers, tax-related reporting, and support for payroll and benefit-related accounting matters.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working collaboratively, solving problems, and contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting in a complex manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare assigned tax returns, tax-related schedules, and reports in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist the Tax Manager with payroll-related accounting activities, including review of payroll and benefit submissions.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly financial workpapers.
- Perform account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed.
- Complete assigned period-end closing activities to support timely financial reporting.
- Compile and analyze financial data for daily, period-end, and ad hoc reporting needs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential financial records and information.
- Communicate effectively with employees across all levels of the organization regarding financial matters.
- Support OCC’s commitment to service excellence, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of tax accounting or general accounting experience preferred.
- Experience working in a complex, multi-entity accounting environment preferred.
- CPA license or active CPA candidate status preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance requirements.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with payroll or accounting systems preferred.
- Ability to compile, analyze, and maintain accurate financial data.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and proprietary information.
Work Environment & Requirements

Compensation Information
The posted compensation range reflects the established base salary range for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically placed below the midpoint of the range. Additional compensation opportunities may include applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other eligible incentives.
