Description
The City of Owosso is seeking an experienced and strategic financial professional to serve as its next Finance Director.
Under the direction of the City Manager, the Finance Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of the City’s financial operations. Key responsibilities include annual budget development, financial reporting, annual audits, cash and investment management, long-term financial planning, debt and grant management, risk management and insurance oversight, purchasing, payroll and accounts payable administration, and supervision of Finance Department operations.
The Finance Director serves as a key member of the City’s management team and provides financial analysis, advice, and recommendations to support sound decision-making and the long-term fiscal health of the City.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in governmental finance.
- Thorough knowledge of municipal finance, governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Strong leadership, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with governmental financial software; experience with BS&A software is preferred.
- The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader with strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to excellent public service.
