Buffkin Baker is pleased to partner with Southeast Georgia Health System as they seek their next Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the financial viability of the Health System through leadership of assigned departments and of the administration of the policies and procedures related to contemporary health care financial operations and accounting practices. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, DNV requirements, and national patient safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs the financial operations, accounting, investments, and managed care operations of the Health System.
- Responsible for the preparation and reporting of the Health System financial information to the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors of the Health System.
- Apprises the leadership of the organization of its financial position, issues periodic financial and operating reports.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, development, and evaluation of the following departments: Finance; Medical Records; Patient Financial Services, Decision Support, Reimbursement, Managed Care, Patient Access, Procedural Operations, and Central Supply.
- Provides management with relevant financial information that supports the operations of the Health System.
- Responsible for reporting financial information to all third parties that include but are not limited to Medicare & Medicaid Services, Tri-Care, IRS, and the Department of Community Health.
- Coordinates the annual audit of the financial statements that is performed by an independent auditor.
- Provides leadership and support to all departments throughout the Health System.
- Promotes service excellence by developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, other team members, and the medical staff.
The Ideal Candidate:
The next Chief Financial Officer for Southeast Georgia Health System must have a proven track record of successfully leading financial operations in a forward-thinking independent, community-based care delivery system. Prior experience in all aspects of financial services, with specific emphasis on execution of a financial improvement plan, demonstrated revenue cycle management and managed care expertise and investment knowledge is critical. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience with graduate medical education programs. Demonstrated experience in working with consulting partners and vendors to understand all aspects of revenue generation and cost management is important. Experience presenting to and influencing the Board of Directors is essential for the success of the CFO.

- Possess executive-level presence as demonstrated by exceptional communication, presentation, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills, to include a transparent communication style and a spirit of collaboration.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing the strategic vision for Financial Services within the organization, while also having a level of detail orientation that allows a thorough knowledge of current state and future needs of the finance team and the organization.
- Ability to lead and manage day-to-day financial operations through influence and change.
- Ability to create reliability and stability within processes, to include understanding and implementing principles aligned with high reliability organizations.
- Strong ability to evaluate, develop, and mentor talent within the Finance leadership team.
- Effective team leadership and teambuilding skills, while fostering an enhanced level of engagement amongst the team.
- Effective planning, prioritization and project management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and adjust based upon the changing needs of the health system.
- Establishes personal and professional credibility with all constituencies across the organization, to include a service-oriented leadership Specifically, nurtures excellent and highly credible internal and external user relationships with emphasis on consistent, superior service, and performance.
- Possesses a servant leader mentality/orientation by placing greater emphasis on the goals of the organization and the financial services team/department ahead of (his/her) own personal goals.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field and master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, finance or related field.
- Extensive knowledge of health care finance and a minimum of seven years leadership experience in a senior level finance role within a multi-site community health system, similar in size and scope to SGHS.
- CPA certification is preferred.
