Join a leading global insurance group as a Senior Underwriter (Marine Cargo) and take the lead in driving growth and strategic expansion in Japan's marine insurance market. This is a high-impact role where you'll combine technical underwriting expertise, client engagement, and market leadership to strengthen the company's Marine and Property portfolio. You will play a key part in shaping underwriting strategies, building strong partnerships, and delivering value in a dynamic and evolving market.Key Responsibilities
- Build and grow a new Marine portfolio in Japan, taking ownership of client relationships and account management.
- Assess and price risks to achieve revenue and profitability targets, using global tools and catastrophe models effectively.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and market participation to secure favorable business outcomes and ensure contract accuracy.
- Expand market presence by fostering strong partnerships with brokers, agents, and customers, driving both acquisition and retention.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to support policy administration, credit control, and wider market initiatives.
- Represent the company professionally in the industry, maintaining strong brand reputation and client trust.
- Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience in Marine Insurance for corporate clients.
- At least 10 years in the commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
- Strong understanding of the Japanese insurance market and competitive landscape.
- Deep technical knowledge of marine insurance products and risk assessment.
- Japanese: Fluent (required for client and broker interaction).
- English: Fluent (required for internal communication and global coordination).
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working within global or multinational insurance environments.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of local and international risk frameworks.
- Leadership mindset with the ability to work independently in a hybrid, collaborative culture.
