Director of Finance - Private Equity Firm

Location: Ann Arbor, MI (Onsite)

Overview

A private equity firm based out of Michigan is seeking a high‑caliber Director of Finance to lead financial strategy, reporting, and operational insights across the firm and its portfolio. This role offers direct exposure to senior leadership and a clear long‑term path toward a future CFO position, giving the right individual the ability to step into broader strategic responsibilities as the platform continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, long‑range planning, and capital allocation processes.
• Build and enhance financial infrastructure, dashboards, KPIs, and reporting frameworks.
• Partner with leadership to guide financial strategy and firmwide decision‑making.

Accounting & Reporting

• Oversee month‑end close, general ledger integrity, and GAAP‑compliant financial statements.
• Manage internal controls, audits, treasury functions, and cash‑flow oversight.

Deal Process & Investment Support

• Support key elements of the deal process, including financial modeling, quality‑of‑earnings review, valuation work, and due‑diligence coordination.
• Assist with integration planning, performance tracking, and post‑acquisition financial optimization.

Portfolio Company Support

• Provide ongoing financial analysis and performance metrics for portfolio companies.
• Partner with operating leadership to identify value‑creation opportunities and drive financial discipline.

Operational Finance

• Improve financial operations through process optimization, system enhancements, and automation.
• Manage external partners, including banks, auditors, lenders, and tax advisors.

Qualifications

• 8-15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience (PE‑backed or investment‑driven environments preferred).
• Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with audits, month‑end close, and consolidated reporting.
• Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical capabilities.
• CPA or MBA preferred.
• Proven leadership ability in a hands‑on, high‑growth environment.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Ann Arbor, MI.
